John Marinan

Of Counsel

A native of Meriden, Connecticut, John received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Connecticut and his degree in law from the University of Florida, graduating first in his class.  While in law school, John was the recipient of numerous academic awards and on graduation received the Corpus Juris Secundum Awardfor Legal Scholarship and the Bureau of National Affairs Award for Academic Excellence in the study of Intellectual Property Law.  He also was a member of Moot Court and of the Order of the Coif, the nation’s honor society for law school graduates, and Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest honorary fraternity based on academic achievement.

John served honorably in the U.S. Army Military Police, stationed at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and later in West Berlin, Germany.

Upon graduation in 1980, John joined the Atlanta law firm of King & Spalding where he practiced primarily in the area of complex commercial litigation, representing both large and small corporate Clients.  In 1984 he accepted an offer to practice in New York City with the firm of Haight, Gardner, Poor & Havens.  John continued to practice commercial litigation representing primarily foreign-based Clients.  He also spent a great deal of his time in litigation brought on behalf of persons who had died in aircraft accidents and representing clients in Title VII litigation.

In 1994 John returned to Atlanta and became of counsel to the firm of Federal & Hasson.  His practice continues to be in the area of commercial litigation, securities, contractual disputes, and Title VII litigation.  John is a member of the Georgia and New York bars and is admitted to practice in the state courts of Georgia and New York and in the federal courts of the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia, the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the Second and Eleventh United States Circuit Courts of Appeal, and the United States Supreme Court.
