Julie Fleming-Brown

Of Counsel

Julie Fleming Brown holds a B.S. in Biology, Magna Cum Laude, from Georgia State University, and a B.A. in English from Vanderbilt.  She earned her law degree at Emory University School of Law, where she was recognized with the American Jurisprudence Award, and served as Notes and Comments Editor of the Emory International Law Review.  After earning her law degree, Julie clerked for two years with the Honorable Owen Forrester, United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. 

Julie has over six years experience litigating intellectual property cases, having worked as an associate in the Atlanta office of the international law firm of Jones, Day, where her practice focused on patent infringement and theft of trade secret cases involving technologies such as biophotonics, telecommunications and electrostatics, and as an associate in the Orlando, Florida, boutique firm of Allen, Dyer, Doppelt, Milbrath and Gilchrist, P.A., where her focus was on patent and trademark disputes involving technologies such as medical devices, software, hermetics and payment data transfer.  She has extensive experience in all stages of intellectual property litigation, including working with expert witnesses to prepare them for deposition and trial, conducting and evaluating prior art searches, taking and defending depositions and drafting pleadings, discovery requests and responses, motions and briefs. 

Julie has authored numerous articles and book reviews, including Powerful Medicines, Jurimetrics; The Journal of Law, Science, and Technology (Arizona State University College of Law) Spring 2006, and State Funding of Embryonic Stem Cell Research: Is Florida Next?  Biotech Briefing (Biotechnology Committee of ABA Section of Science and Technology Law), Publication, January 2006.

She is active in the Section of Science and Technology Law of the American Bar Association, having served as an ElectedCouncil Member of that section and as Chair of the Biotechnology Committee and Chair of the Life Sciences and Physical Sciences Division of the Section, as well as a member of its Long Range Planning committee.  She has also served on the editorial board of “The SciTech Lawyer”, published by the ABA Section of Science and Technology Law.  She has served as a member of the American Bar Association’s Special Committee on Bioethics and the Law, and is a Fellow in the American Bar Foundation.

In addition to her law practice as “of counsel” to the firm, Julie operates a consulting business, Life at the Bar, providing attorneys with professional coaching and advice in areas such as practice development in the early years, transitions within and outside the practice of law, and maintaining work/life balance, and she provides career development coaching and consulting for law students at Liberty University School of Law in Lynchburg, Virginia. 

Julie is admitted to practice in Georgia, Florida, the District of Columbia, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
